WESTERN NEW YORK – School safety patrol week is underway in Western New York.

The initiative was started by AAA 1920. Currently, there are more than 9,000 patrol members in almost 500 schools across the state.

The patrol members’ mission is to safely direct classmates at street crossings and school routes and help with bus loading.

“The AAA School Safety Patrol program has provided useful training and supplies for safety patrollers nationally for 99 years,” said New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. “Safety patrollers contribute to New York’s outstanding record of keeping its elementary school students safe.”
