ALLEGHENY RESERVOIR – The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office and Frewsburg Volunteer Firefighters are credited with rescuing a group of stranded boaters over the weekend.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reports they received a 911 call Saturday evening for a marine vessel that was having engine problems while boating in the Allegheny Reservoir.

Deputies said the boaters were beached on an island near High Banks Camp Ground.

With the assistance of Frewsburg Fire Volunteers the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol was able to locate the vessel.

Deputies said all four boaters on board were in good health; just “wet and cold.”

Two adult males were taken by the sheriff’s boat ashore. Two men remained on the boat until it was towed back to the Onoville Marina.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reminds all boaters to inspect their vessels before hitting the water. Deputies said to check for personal flotation devices, flares/visual signals, whistles, and be sure to have a fire extinguisher on board.
