JAMESTOWN – A new restaurant at the former Friendly’s location in Brooklyn Square is expected to open in August.
City of Jamestown Director of Development, and the restaurant’s new owner, Vince DeJoy told WNYNewsNow Jimmy’s Family Restaurant looks to employ former Friendly’s staff and bring back the vibe the restaurant left behind.
“The fact that we can employ another thirty people that had jobs in that location just thrills me to death,” said DeJoy. “This is something that is going to be a real community spirited type of place; from displaying artwork from Jamestown High School, to being available for after school plays and events for ice cream, and available for the ladies groups who came in and played cards.”
DeJoy said the restaurant will be run by Friendly’s former manager and operated by much of the former staff. He said the food will be similar to Friendly’s menu offering breakfast, lunch, dinner and ice cream at fair prices.
“Jimmy’s is a play on Jimmytown, as Jamestown has been fondly called by many people for many years. It is a tribute to Jamestown and my two grandfathers who both went by the name Jimmy,” said DeJoy.
This is not DeJoy’s first restaurant venture. DeJoy and his brother previously owned and operated ‘Stage Left’ in the 1990’s which is currently Forte.
DeJoy said the restaurant is expected to open in the beginning of August. He wants the community to know the restaurant is funded from his personal finances and loans. The Director of Development stressed he has kept this business venture separate from his job with the city.
