JAMESTOWN – A fantastic afternoon is in store today with lots of sunshine and low humidity. However, the remnants of what was Tropical Storm Barry will bring some tropical rain to the region on Wednesday out ahead of potentially the hottest weather we’ve seen so far this summer.

Throughout the afternoon, expect mostly sunny skies and very comfortable humidity. Highs 76 to 85 with southwest wind less than 10 MPH. Dry weather will continue into tonight with morning lows 60 to 65.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop tomorrow behind a warm front. Some of those storm could be heavy at times mainly from the state line south into Northwest Pennsylvania. We do not expect any severe weather. Temps will be in the mid to upper 80’s.

As we head into Wednesday, the remnant low of Barry will pass south of the region and bring us the chance for scattered showers and storms. Keep in mind, these will be tropical in nature with heavy downpours at times. Tropical rain tends to yield smaller and less reflective raindrops than “normal” summertime rain, giving the false appearance of lighter rain on Doppler radar. Rainfall totals may reach one half inch on spots.

The tropical rain may come on end on Thursday but the heat and humidity will soar into very high levels through Saturday. While some model guidance is suggesting parts of the Southern Tier may hit 90 on Friday, it is a very hard thing to achieve down here. Looking at past “heat waves” as analogs, we are keeping our forecasted high below the 90-degree mark at 89.

However, make no mistake about it, the very topical, Florida-like air that will be in place will make it feel more like the lower to mid 90’s during this period.
