SAN FRANCISCO – Five Girl Scouts from Westfield recently joined thousands of other troops from across the nation to take part in the Northern California Council’s Golden Gate Bridging Ceremony.

The ceremony takes place when scouts move up from one level to the next. The Golden Gate event welcomed girls bridging from Juniors to Cadettes.

Girl Scouts Brooke Luce, Lilly Teeter, Desiree Bowen, Grace Graham, and Lily Hafner, joined Girl Scout co-leaders Patricia Bowen and Wendy Graham on the four-day trip across the nation.

“We’ve had bridging ceremonies over small local bridges before,” said troop co-leader Patty Bowen. “When we found out girls on the West Coast bridged over one of the Engineering Wonders of the World, we were in.”

The scouts also visited the world renowned Redwood Forest, toured San Francisco by bus, took a ferry ride past Alcatraz, rode a cable car, and visited the sea lions on Pier 39.

Despite some homesickness, all of the girls report they are eager to travel again, especially on a Girl Scout trip. To learn more about Girl Scouts of Western New York, visit gswny.org.
