Chautauqua County Jail Inmate Charged With Promoting Prison Contraband

MAYVILLE – An inmate at the Chautauqua County Jail allegedly caused damage to a jail mattress Monday morning, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven Dean, no age given, allegedly made and possessed what the Sheriff’s Office called “dangerous contraband in the form of a cutting weapon.”

Dean was charged on Tuesday with first-degree promoting prison contraband and fourth-degree criminal mischief.


Dean was arraigned by the Centralized Arraignment Program, and bail was set at $10,000.
