ERIE – Five children are dead and four people were injured in a fire Sunday at a Erie, Pa. home that operated as a round-the-clock daycare.

Fire officials say the children ranged from 8 months to eight years old. Four of them were siblings.

The fifth victim was the child of the daycare’s owner. The fire broke out just after 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Investigators say the daycare had no smoke detectors, except for one in the attic.

They say that if there had been the proper number of detectors, most, if not all of the victims would have survived. The official cause is still under investigation.
