Investigators Continue To Seek Cause Of Fire That Left Family Homeless

CHAUTAUQUA – Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a house early Monday morning leaving a Dewittville family homeless.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says that two adults and two children escaped the house without injuries after a fire broke out late Sunday night at 5728 Centralia-Hartfield Rd.

Departments from Ellery Center, Hartfield, Maple Springs, Mayville, Sherman, Stockton, Ashville, Bemus Point, Chautauqua and Dewittville responded.


Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies, while responding to a harassment call, initially noticed the fire and called in crews.

Dewittville, Hartfield and Maple Springs firefighters were called back to the scene Monday morning to re-extinguish the blaze.
