Southwestern BOE Member Charged With Criminal Possession Of A Weapon

WEST ELLICOTT – A Southwestern Central School Board of Education member was arrested after Town of Ellicott Police alleged he possessed a pistol without a permit.

Town of Ellicott Police said Richard J. Hartmann Jr., 57, is charged with criminal possession of a weapon.







Police said Southern Central School’s Student Resource Officer was investigating a complaint that a juvenile displayed an image of a handgun on social media. Police said no threats were made to the school or a student.

Through investigation police said they discovered that Hartmann allegedly possessed a pistol in his home without a New York State Pistol Permit.







Police said Hartmann is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ellicott Court later this month.
