GERRY – Residents living at ‘The Homestead,’ a senior living community in Gerry have been hard at work tending to gardens over the summer.
Officials with Heritage Ministries say Don and Janet Peterson, who owned a farm prior to moving to Heritage, love growing multiple types of produce in their own garden right at ‘The Homestead’ and sharing the fruits of their labor.
“My wife and I spent 30 years on our family farm in Sherman. When the time came to consider independent living options, moving wasn’t easy, but we were ready for the freedom and security that comes with a home maintained by Heritage,” said Don Peterson. “Not straying too far from our roots, The Homestead offers country living just outside the city; it’s the best of both worlds.”
The couple has shared many different types of vegetables they have grown with the community this year including corn, zucchini, summer squash, and beans.
