Trial Scheduled For Dunkirk Woman Charged With Manslaughter

MAYVILLE – Jury selection in the trial for Ashlyann M. Lopez-Lopez, 26, the Dunkirk woman charged with second-degree manslaughter, will start Jan. 7.

District Attorney Patrick Swanson confirmed the date to WNYNewsNow Thursday afternoon, but declined to further comment.

Dunkirk Police allege Lopez-Lopez stabbed a 15-year-old girl to death in the afternoon of May 15 on Lincoln Avenue. Police originally charged her with first-degree manslaughter.

Lopez-Lopez was indicted earlier this summer, and she plead not guilty in Chautauqua County Court. Bail was reduced from $500,000 to $150,000.

Swanson will represent the prosecution, while Jason Schmidt will represent Lopez-Lopez.
