STEAMBURG – One person was flown to a regional hospital via medical helicopter Thursday evening following a crash on I-86 near Randolph.

The two-vehicle crash happened in the eastbound lane between the Randolph and Steamburg exits.

New York State Police say Daniel Huff, 36, of Gowanda, was stopped half in the driving lane and shoulder before he was rear-ended by a pickup driven by Lee Finch, 36, of Frewsburg.

Police said Finch told troopers he thought the vehicle was moving and when he looked off the road and looked back he didn’t have enought time to exit his lane.

Huff was airlifted to Hamot Hospital with back injuries. Finch was treated for minor facial cuts from glass.

Traffic was diverted at the Randolph exit while crews worked the scene.
