JAMESTOWN – Several area law enforcement agencies are teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration to take back unused prescription drugs this weekend.
On Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, Jamestown Police and Dunkirk Police will be holding several collection sites around the area from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Officials say unused or expired prescription medications are public safety hazards and can lead to accidental poisoning, overdoses and abuse. Proper disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs can eliminate temptation for abuse.
Furthermore, authorities say disposal of drugs can also help lower overdose death and abuse, especially in children and young adults.
According to the DEA’s website, locations include the Southside Pharmacy, Chautauqua Mall, WCA Alstar Services North County Headquarters, Salamanca City Municipal Building Fire Department and Little Valley Corner Drug Store.
Police say all you have to do is drive in and drop off the pills, no questions asked.
