ELLERY – Police say a medical emergency likely caused a crash that shutdown parts of Interstate 86 eastbound in the Town of Ellery Tuesday morning.

New York State Police tell WNYNewsNow that the tractor trailer’s driver, Donald Tenny, 54, of Ohio, is in critical condition at an Erie, Pa. hospital.

Police say Tenny drove into the median shortly after 5 a.m. after possibly suffering a medical emergency.

As of 8 a.m. crews remained on scene working to remove a semi-truck that crashed into the median. The highway was closed between Exit 9 (Route 430 East) to Exit 11 (Strunk Road). It reopened at 9:30 a.m.

WNYNewsNow will continue to seek updates on this story.
