Man Allegedly Runs Vehicles Off Roadway, Crashes Into Police Car Following Chase

DUNKIRK – A Village of Gowanda man is facing several charges following a vehicle pursuit in Dunkirk this week.

City of Dunkirk Police say Ethan McHale, 21, was driving after allegedly switching registration plates on his vehicle Tuesday night.

Police say officers tried to pull McHale over but he fled the area and a pursuit ensued.

Officers allege McHale drove without headlights, on sidewalks, lawns and forced vehicles off the roadway.

The chase came to an end on Park Avenue after McHale’s vehicle crashed into a parked car then struck a Dunkirk Police car.

Police say McHale was held overnight pending arraignment in the case. He is charged with felony first-degree reckless endangerment, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal mischief and 20 other vehicle and traffic violations.

McHale was later released under New York State’s Bail Reform law.

No one was injured in the crash.
