Falconer Wins Division Wrestling Championship

SYRACUSE – The Falconer wrestling team has brought home another state championship win.

With a 40-39 win in the championship round vs. Mount Sinai, the Falconer wrestling team was crowned the 2020 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Champions on Saturday.

Falconer’s road to the Division II Wrestling Championship began by taking on Palmyra Macedon, a Section V champion team which the Golden Falcons posted a 51-31 victory.


In the next round, Falconer took on and defeated Section III school Central Valley Academy 45-33.

The Golden Falcons punched their ticket to the finals by knocking off Clarke, a Section VIII School 42-30.

Battling Mount Sinai in the Championship round, Falconer took home the championship after Brayden Newman sealed the deal for the Golden Falcons, pinning his opponent to lead Falconer to victory.



The other schools from Section VI who participated in the Wrestling Dual Meet Championships were Lancaster, Niagara Wheatfield and Iroquois.

Falconer began the Championships ranked number one for small school teams in the state of New York, and were the seventh seed when they began competition.
