JAMESTOWN – On Wednesday, the Jamestown Tarp Skunks baseball team signed Johnny Kampes, IV, a catcher from Wagner University, a Division I FCS School in Staten Island.

Kampes’s signing is the first one by Jamestown since they became the Tarp Skunks in January.

A right-handed hitter and thrower from Colora, MD, Kampes will begin his sophomore season of Wagner Seahawks baseball on Valentine’s Day.

In his freshman campaign in 2019, Kampes batted .183 with a home run and five RBI’s in 37 games played, with 34 starts behind the plate.

Kampes’s first season of college baseball ended with the Seahawks finishing 19-32 on the season, including an 11-13 conference record.

Jamestown will begin the 202o regular season in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League on May 29 for their first game since 2018, in which the then Jamestown Jammers management relocated to Milwaukee, WI.
