State Bans Empty Tractor-trailers On Parts Of I-90

RIPLEY – New York State’s Thruway Authority has banned empty tractor-trailers from pars of I-90 starting at 3 a.m. due to high winds.

The Thruway Authority says the ban goes from the Lackawanna Toll Barrier to the Pennsylvania state line.

A Blizzard Warning will go into effect 10 p.m. Wednesday through 4 p.m. Friday bringing heavy lake effect snow and whiteouts with gusty winds.


Snow totals will range from 7 to 10 inches along the lower elevations to as much as 15 to 24 inches along the hills of the Southern Tier.

Travel could also be very difficult to impossible as areas of blowing snow will produce near zero visibility.

The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes Thursday and Friday.
