First Woman Takes Over As Deputy Fire Coordinator In Chautauqua County

WESTFIELD – Chautauqua County’s newest fire battalion chief is breaking through the ‘glass ceiling.’

Marsha Holland, a Westfield firefighter and emergency medical technician for over twenty years, took over as the county’s second battalion deputy fire coordinator, the first woman to serve in the position.

Holland will oversee departments in Brocton, Chautauqua, Dewittville, Findley Lake, Hartfield, Mayville, Portland, Ripley, Sherman and Westfield.


She started her profession with Westfield Fire in 1996, and served as first and second Assistant Chief, Captain and Lieutenant of the Rescue Squad.

Additionally, Holland has held rank of Captain and Secretary of the Cascade Hose Company and served as the department’s secretary for more than ten years.

She was additionally the first female president of the Southwestern Association of Volunteer Firemen and is a nationally certified Fire Prevention and Life Safety Educator.
