BUFFALO — A Jamestown man faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute and distributing fentanyl.
Alfredo Diaz, also known as Dindo, 57, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo to possessing with intent to distribute, and distributing, fentanyl. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael J. Adler and Evan K. Glaberson, who are handling the case, stated that in April, investigators conducted three controlled purchases of fentanyl from the defendant. On May 13, searches were conducted of both Diaz’s residence as well as a storage unit he used. In the residence, investigators located approximately $8,000 in U.S. currency as well as drug distribution paraphernalia, including glassine bags and a digital scale. In the storage unit, a black 2016 Cadillac SRX sport utility vehicle registered to the defendant, as well as approximately $44,075 U.S. currency, was seized. The vehicle also contained a digital scale and packaging material.
The plea is the result of an investigation by the Jamestown Police Department and the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force, under the direction of Acting Jamestown Police Chief Timothy Jackson; Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin Kelly; the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, under the direction of Cattaraugus County Sheriff Timothy Whitcomb; the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff James Quattrone; the Ellicott Police Department, under the direction of Chief William Ohnmeiss Jr.; and the New York State Police, under the direction of Major James Hall.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 8, 2021, before Judge Vilardo.
