RIPLEY – A 46-year-old has died from injuries sustained in a logging accident over the weekend in Chautauqua County.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says David Byler, of Middlefield Ohio, was cutting trees about a half-a-mile in a wooded area off of Klondike Road in the Town of Ripley on Saturday morning.

While working, deputies say a tree fell on Byler causing injury.

Both Ripley and South Ripley Fire Departments, along with Chautauqua County EMS, responded to the scene.

Byler was taken to Westfield Memorial Hospital and later air lifted to Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania.

On Sunday afternoon the Sheriff’s Office says he died as a result of injuries he sustained.
