
OLEAN – A 49-year-old Cattaraugus County man is facing felony charges after allegedly shooting a dog and leaving them abandoned in the woods.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old James Crawford, of Olean, is charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty.
Deputies say the dog was found shot and left abandoned along Wayman Branch Road in the Town of Olean on March 3.
Following an investigation, deputies say Crawford was arrested and charged with the alleged crime this week.
The Sheriff’s Office says with the help of Portville Police, animal control, Haskell Valley Veterinary Clinic and the Cattaraugus Count SPCA, the dog was treated and survived the shooting.
Deputies report the animal is now recovering well.
