JAMESTOWN – Jamestown City Democrats have filed petitions for a replacement candidate for late Councilwoman Vickye James on this year’s ballot.

According to the Chautauqua County Board of Elections website, Regina Brackman will now run for the Ward III seat this fall. Brackman’s candidacy comes after James’ untimely death in March.

Brackman will run against Republican Robert Reedy for the seat.

Meanwhile, Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist will need to appoint to fill the Ward III seat for the remainder of the term. Sundquist is required to appoint a Democrat since James was a member of the Democrat Party.

Brackman narrowly lost to Republican Tamara Dickey in 2013 for the Ward III seat.

WNY News Now has learned that the Mayor’s office is currently working on assembling a press conference to discuss the Ward III seat.
