Ripley Chief Recognized For Life Saving Actions, Named Firefighter Of The Year

RIPLEY – A firefighter in Chautauqua County is receiving recognition for his life saving actions.

The Ripley Hose Company No. 1 announced that Chief Mark Smith has been named Firefighter of the Year in Chautauqua County.

Smith was first nominated for the award after saving a woman trapped inside her burning house.


At the time he was assisted by bystanders to help save the woman from smoke and flames.

The heroic first responder was presented the award during a ceremony held by the Ripley VFW.
