DUNKIRK – A male drowned overnight in Lake Erie near the Dunkirk City Pier.

In a news release Monday morning, Dunkirk Police say two male subjects went into the water off the pier and only one made it back to shore just before 12:45 a.m.

Officers responded to the area, and with the help of the Dunkirk Fire Department and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, began a search.

Following an underwater search by the Chautauqua County WET Team, officers say a male body was located.

The department however did not confirm the age or identity of the male victim.
