MAYVILLE – A ceremony remembering the over 3,000 lives lost during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks is happening this weekend in Chautauqua County.
Hosted by the local American Legion and the Chautauqua County Veterans Council, the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony kicks off at noon Saturday in front of the Chautauqua County Courthouse in Mayville.
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the attacks. The county’s program will feature a few words from local dignitaries including the County Veterans Service Agency Director, Commander of the American Legion and President of the Blue Star Mothers Lake Erie chapter.
The program is to honor and remember the Americans killed on September 11, 2001 when members of the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and crashed them in the World Trade Center in New York City, the pentagon just outside of Washington, D.C., and a field in Western Pennsylvania.
The program will be streamed live on WNY News Now’s 24/7 streaming network starting at noon.
