ALBANY (WENY) – The vaccine mandate for healthcare workers in the empire state began last week. One question still remains unanswered: Just how many employees were put out of work?

According to the Albany CBS affiliate WRGB, Governor Hochul has not given a response.

During a briefing in the red room of the state capitol, she was asked twice for the number to which she said she didn’t have it.

This comes as many hospitals across New York are facing staffing shortages.

Hochul says, “Because the numbers are changing by the moment, I think there’s just a fundamental misunderstanding of how this came about. Any number we give you at that moment is not an accurate number. I’ll be able to give very accurate numbers soon. We set up all these opportunities whether it was using student nurses, whether it was using those who licenses had lapsed, whether we use combinations to make them available, I said we’d bring in the National Guard if we wanted.”
