WARREN – The Republican candidate for City of Warren Mayor is the projected winner of Tuesday night’s election.

As of late Tuesday night, Dave Wortman leads Democrat Phil Gilbert by 625 votes, 66 percent of the ballot, 1,262 to 637.

Wortman brings 20 years of business experience to the office, working at United Refining and with the U.S. Army and a soldier and guardsman.

He previously served on City council and the county school board.

The candidate says population loss is the biggest issue facing the city. He says, however, the loss is a symptom of underlying problems like the lack of jobs in the area.

If confirmed by the absentee ballot count next week, Wortman will replace outgoing mayor Maurice Cashman.
