ELLICOTT – A 35-year-old man wanted for kidnapping a woman is in custody after allegedly fleeing police during a vehicle pursuit overnight.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reports that Dimas Rios was located at a business on Route 60 in Ellicott just before midnight Thursday.
It is alleged he fled at a high rate of speed and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The chase continued throughout the Town of Ellicott and City of Jamestown, before it ended when his vehicle became stuck while driving through a residential yard on Vinnie Street in Jamestown.
Deputies said Rios fled the area on foot while police safely secured the female victim from the vehicle.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s K9 Link followed Rios’ human odor track from the vehicle and found him hiding near a residence two blocks away.
Rios surrendered to the K9 and was taken into custody by deputies and Jamestown Police.
He is charged with Unlawful Imprisonment 1st degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st degree, Reckless Driving, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator 3rd degree, Unlawfully Fleeing Police Officer in Motor Vehicle 3rd, and failed to comply with lawful order along with several traffic violations.
Rios was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail to be arraigned on a felony Kidnapping charge, along with the new charges from the chase.
