FREDONIA – The Village of Fredonia may soon have a new police chief; a familiar face on the law enforcement scene in Chautauqua County.

Village trustees are expected to appoint a new chief on Monday evening.

The current resolution, if approved, would appoint former Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace as the village’s top cop.

Gerace, the resolution says, would make $88,800 dollars a year with his salary increasing annually to $93,800 once his appointment becomes permanent.

He served as Chautauqua County Sheriff for 24 years. Most recently, Gerace was the director of campus security and safety at Chautauqua Institution.
