RIPLEY – Travel restrictions have been placed on parts of Interstate-90 ahead of this weekend’s wind storm.

The New York State Thruway Authority announced Friday a ban empty tractor trailers, high-profile vehicles, and empty tandems on I-90 from exit 61 in Ripley to exit 42 in Geneva.

The ban will take effect at noon on Saturday and last until further notice.

According to the National Weather Service, gusts up to 70 MPH are expected Saturday afternoon and evening east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Strong winds are expected to produce areas of damage and power outages.

Officials say speed reductions may be implemented if necessary.
