WEST ELLICOTT – The Southwestern Central School District closed Friday following a threat of violence.
The district announced the news on social media.
The post says the school is working with law enforcement authorities in investigating the threat.
They say transportation to off campus schools will be available. Classes for Southwestern BOCES students are also called off.
On Thursday a rumor circulating on TikTok regarding generalized threats to districts across the nation was of concern for several area schools.
Officials say it appears the TikTok posts originated in Florida and have spread nationally via social media.
Law enforcement across the region are aware of the TikTok video. Parents are asked to monitor their child’s social media and report any concerns to the school.
It is unclear if this closure is related to the TikTok posts.
