MAYVILLE – Chautauqua Lake was named one of the best fishing spots for President’s Day 2022.

The ranking was announced by FishingBooker last week.

“A number of US Presidents have been avid fishermen. It just goes to show that fishing has and continues to be a popular pastime for people from all walks of life,” the agency said in announcing the ranking. “There are a lot of incredible places where one can celebrate President’s Day.”

The world’s largest online service for booking fishing trips, FishingBooker, has selected the best spots in the country for this occasion, and Chautauqua Lake made the top eight.

“For a family-friendly way to spend the holiday, Chautauqua Lake is a great, worthwhile option,” the group said. “At the upper end of the lake, the Mayville Winter Festival for President’s Day Weekend at Lakeside Park has become an annual tradition. If you’re a fan of things like ice fishing, snowmobiles, and carriage rides, as well as good food, you won’t want to miss out.”

Fishing experts say February is a great time for targeting Bluegill, Perch, and Walleye.

“The latter aren’t native to the lake, but you can still find them in good numbers this time of year,” FishingBooker continued. “And if you like it enough to come back again later, you can look forward to some prime Bass fishing.”
