MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County’s transit system will soon see a major upgrade.

That’s according to Chautauqua County Executive P.J. Wendel, who delivered his 2022 State of the County address prior to the County Legislator meeting last night. The system of CARTS be rebranded as CHQ Transit.

Wendel spoke to WNY News Now following the meeting. He explains that the upgrade will help attract new customers while improving the experience of frequent riders.

“One of the things here locally when people think of CARTS, they don’t realize it’s for everybody,” Wendel said. “They really haven’t experienced carts, and they see the criticism of half-empty buses, etc.”

Wendel says the Public Works will be bringing in three new trollies in an effort to rebrand the current system. Additionally, the executive says the buses will have different color schemes based on the routes.

Additionally, Wendel says a mobile app and cashless tolling will be included.
