WASHIINGTON, D.C. – As the Russian attack on Ukraine continues, this crisis has weighed heavily on people’s hearts and minds across the world including here at home and in our nation’s capitol. People in Washington D.C. are showing their support for Ukraine at their Embassy.
People have put out flowers and signs to show their support for the Ukrainian people and people passing by said they hope that this conflict will end.
“It’s overwhelming flowers, you know, symbolism of love,” said one man passing by the display. He stopped to take pictures of the display and helped put together the flower arrangement after some fell due to the winds. His friends’ relatives are in Ukraine.
“My only message is to stop this unnecessary war,” he said.
Others passing by taking photos or reading signs have the same message: to end the conflict.
“Like it says peace for these people freedom, they’re fighting for their survival,” said another passerby. “Obviously the whole world cracking down on [Vladimir] Putin and everybody’s on [Ukraine] their side.”
Others said as the conflict continues, people add more flowers, more signs to this display.
“I have prayers for their [Ukrainian] president, I have prayers for President Putin as well,” said local Philip Cabrera. We asked Cabrera what his prayers for Putin are. “For peace. For him to understand the love of Christ and for him to realize what he’s doing to the [Ukrainian] people.”
