BUFFALO – A 44-year-old Dunkirk man accused of kidnapping a woman last summer has plead guilty in the case.

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced that Hiram Rivera plead guilty to felony attempted kidnapping on Wednesday.

Rivera, prosecutors say, held a woman at gunpoint while fleeing police in June 2021.

After crashing his car during a police pursuit, Rivera allegedly dragged the woman out of her vehicle while armed with a hammer and what appeared to be a pistol.

Rivera was accused of holding the victim against her will in a nearby wooded area while armed with the weapons. After nearly three hours of hostage negotiations, he surrendered and the victim was unharmed.
