Lakewood Fire Department Mourns The Loss Of A Longtime Firefighter

LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Fire Department is mourning the loss of a longtime firefighter.

On Tuesday, the department announced the passing of life-long member Edwin (Ed) Nelson.


Nelson joined Lakewood Fire on March 3, 1948 at the age of 18 following in his father’s footsteps.

Firefighting was in his blood, with many of his children and grandchildren also becoming firefighters.

He spent 74 years with LFD, many of which he was active accumulating over 13,000 alarms.



Nelson was 93.
