GIRARD, Pa. (Erie News Now) – The Girard American Legion 494 helped organize a birthday bash for WWII Veteran John Suscheck. Suscheck turned 100-years-old on Tuesday.

He told Erie News Now, “I was proud to serve, proud to be there, it was tough in the beginning, but this Country means a lot to me.”

He was stationed in Italy and had important responsibilities. He was born and raised near Albion, Pa. and is now the only living sibling, from a family of 8 children.

He lost a Sister last week and his wife last December. They were married for 74 years.
