SHERMAN, NY (WNY News Now) – Two people were hurt during an Amish buggy-vehicle crash in the Village of Sherman.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on Osborn Street.

Following an investigation into the accident, deputies believe that 30-year-old Naresh Kumar Venkatesan was traveling west on the Interstate 86 off ramp and failed to stop on Osborn Street, striking the Amish horse and buggy which was crossing the intersection.

Two subjects in the Amish buggy were transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital for treatment. The horse, deputies said, was not injured as a result of the accident.

Venkatesan was issued a traffic citation for failure to stop at a stop sign and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Sherman Court at a later date to answer to the charge.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sherman and Mayville Fire Departments.
