JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – Over the past month, the average price for a gallon on gasoline has decreased around 50 cents in Chautauqua County.

According to AAA, Chautauqua County’s average price for a gallon of gas on Monday was $4.01 a gallon, down 53 cents from $4.54 back on July 21.

Statewide, the average cost for a gallon of gas in New York is $4.01, which is down 13 cents from last week. This time last year the average price was $3.28.

The national average dropped six cents from last week, decreasing to $3.79. This time last year the average price for a gallon of gas was $3.19.

While gas prices remain higher than last year, AAA says drivers can conserve fuel by mapping their routes, avoiding peak traffic times, using cruise control when possible and combining errands into one trip.

AAA warns that as we enter hurricane season, oil production in the Gulf of Mexico could be affected, which would affect prices.
