ERIE, Pa. (Erie News Now) — With inflation affecting nearly everything these days, children’s sports is no exception.

With gear, uniforms, team fees, and travel expenses requiring a small fortune each year, parents are struggling to balance their wallets with their kid’s sport.

“So the season fees are probably about $1500,” said Adam Hoesterman, who’s visiting from Buffalo with his son to compete in the Erie MLK Hockey Cup. “And then you have equipment on top of that, too. So skates, pads, jerseys, all that stuff. So depending on what they may need, [it’s] another couple hundred dollars… And where we go during the year, that may add a couple of hundred dollars too. So all in probably about $2500 for the whole season for just hockey.”
