FREDONIA, NY (WNY News Now) — Coming soon for Fredonia residents, a reduction in the speed limit along Route 20 in the village of Fredonia.

Fredonia Mayor Doug Essek has learned from the New York State Department of Transportation that a speed reduction study was conducted and officials concluded that the speed limit should be lowered.

“I wanted to inform you that my staff has completed our speed reduction study along Route 20 through the village of Fredonia,” Essek explained, reading from a letter sent to his office. “Based on our analysis, and our speed zone evaluation criteria, we have determined that we will establish a 30 mile per hour speed limit along Route 20 within the village limits. Consequently, the school speed limit will also be reduced to 20 miles an hour.”

Last fall, trustees scheduled a public hearing on a proposed local law that would have reduced the village speed limit along Route 20, but had to adjourn it after learning about the requirement of a traffic study.

Residents can expect to see signage installation after Spring 2023.
