MAYVILLE, NY (WNY News Now) – A Jamestown man has been convicted of assaulting doctors and nurses at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital.

On Tuesday, the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office announced James Morris was convicted of second-degree felony assault in connection with the crime.

While a patient at the hospital, prosecutors said Morris attacked several doctors and nurses trying to provide care in October 2020.

DA Jason Schmidt said in a statement, “our medical staff work tirelessly to help the injured and sick of our community; those persons who attack and hurt them will be held accountable.”

As a result of the conviction, Morris was sentenced to four years in State Prison plus three years of parole supervision.

  1. My mom was one of the nurses assaulted. No doctors. Just nurses properly staffed with no security on the unit. My mom had to sue the place to get her wafes that THEY REFUSED TO GIVE HER, after she was almost murdered! And she developed ptsd!!!UPMC was NOT kind to their staff that was injured.
