HARRISBURG, Pa. (Erie News Now) — The State Capitol is celebrating the advancement of one of Pennsylvania’s NFL teams to this year’s Super Bowl.

Last evening, Governor Josh Shapiro helped light the west side of the Capitol green following the Philadelphia Eagles’ victory Sunday night over the San Francisco 49ers.

The interior of the main Capitol is also green to celebrate the NFC champions. The Capitol will remain lit in “Eagles green” until the big game on Feb. 12.

Shapiro, who is from Montgomery County – just outside of Philadelphia – is an Eagles fan, and is very excited to cheer on his team.

“Congratulations Philadelphia Eagles, what a huge win. NFC champions, and in two weeks we bring that Lombardi Trophy back to Philly, back to Pennsylvania,” said Shapiro in a video shared Tuesday evening. “Birds Nation, this is big right now, this is huge. And I got a little something for you to celebrate the win and to get ready for the Super Bowl,” Shapiro added.

The Eagles face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday Feb. 12 at 6:30.
