ERIE, Pa. (Eire News Now) — Norovirus, commonly referred to as the stomach bug, is yet another viral illness seeing an uptick in cases.

Norovirus is highly transmissible. Epidemiologist Dr. Becky Dawson stresses that proper hand hygiene is the number one way to prevent getting sick and spreading the illness.

The term “Norovirus” may sound new and alarming, but this is the most common infection that causes stomach symptoms like vomiting.

Proper handwashing, washing your fruits and vegetables, and making sure that if somebody in your home is sick, that you’re cleaning up the bathroom really well. Maybe even wearing gloves to clean up after someone because it’s just so highly transmissible,” said Dr. Dawson.
