JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) — This weekend, anglers across New York State will have the chance to fish without a license as part of “Free Freshwater Fishing Days.”
The State Department of Environmental Conservation has received feedback from people who permanently picked up the sport after attending one of New York’s free freshwater fishing days.
DEC offers several resources for those interested in learning how to fish including the “I FISH NY” Beginners’ Guide to Freshwater Fishing, which includes information on everything from rigging up a fishing rod to identifying a catch to understanding fishing regulations.
This is just the first of several free fishing weekends this year in New York. In addition to February 18 and 19 free fishing will be offered on June 24, 25, September 23 and November 11.
