ELLICOTTVILLE, NY (WNY News Now) – This year’s unusual winter season has made it difficult for area ski resorts to keep slopes open. However, one ski club in Cattaraugus County seems to have found the magic recipe for making snow.

At Holimont Ski Club in Ellicottville, the warm days and cool nights presented a big task this year to make snow and properly groom slopes.

The snowmaking system has been refined over the years to prepare for unusually warm winters like this.

In fact the investment seems to have paid off, with General Manager Ed Youmans planning to continue operations through the second weekend in April.

As a private club, Youmans says patrons make a big investment, which is why it’s important to provide the maximum amount of slope time.

“The busiest times are on the weekend, that’s when most of our membership is here, however we see quite a bit of business on Friday,” explained Youmans. “I think as some of our competitors end their season, because of some of the snow conditions that they’ve dealt with, we’ll see pretty good weekday visits here.”

During the week Holimont Ski Club offers public availability, inviting guests who are not members to purchase a day pass. As of now, Youmans says there is still some new member slots open for next year’s season. For more visit holimont.com.
