It seems just about every week a plea for blood donations is made in our region.

What’s more, the Community Blood Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York could not even complete a recent promotion due to lack of donors.

Since the start of 2023 the Blood Bank has dealt with a significantly smaller number of donors, compared to last year.

Now, leaders there are hoping to get more donors with a new spring into action campaign reminding our community that blood is always needed each season, and the donations stay local.

“For the spring into action campaign we’re really hoping to encourage donors to donate blood in spring,” said Erika Depalma, Community Relations Specialist. “I think a lot of people think about donating blood around disasters but actually blood is needed at all the times on a regular basis to keep the blood supply stable.”

There is a need all blood types but especially Type O, the first type of blood used in critical and emergency care.

Walk-in’s are welcome at the Community Blood Bank but reservations are encouraged.
