JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY News Now) – Last week, residents of the City of Jamestown gathered together at City Hall to raise the Progress Flag and celebrate the start of Pride Month.

Mayor Eddie Sundquist addressed the crowd last Friday with a heartfelt speech, declaring that the Pearl City recognizes the month of June as Pride month.

During the speech, the mayor also assured those in attendance that the city will continue to fight for the rights of all members of the LGBTQIA+ community and will not be silenced concerning human rights matters.

“When I went to high school and junior high school in Jamestown, being gay was like a target for bullies. To have the city celebrate gay, lesbian, transgender, bi-sexual and questioning people is a very very big step in the right direction,” said community member Patrick Hayes.

The festivities will continue throughout the week, including a bike ride through the city and the Pride festival itself. A full list of events and times can be found on Jamestown Pride’s Facebook Page.
