JAMESTOWN, NY (WNY NEWS NOW) – Heavy smoke is still filtering into Chautauqua county. As a result, multiple outdoor services have been canceled and advisories put in place.

A multitude of local events have been put on hold today, including the Jamestown Tarp Skunks game, and multiple school events across the county.

It is recommended to not go outside Thursday afternoon. And if you do, to wear proper face coverings.

Chautauqua county health officials recommend canceling or postponing outdoor activities Thursday

“This may give us a break to stay inside, with windows closed, without fans, and figure some other things out indoors,“ explained Dr. Michael Faulk, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Interim Public Health Director. “We are recommending, especially for those with underlying medical conditions. Such as asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, to avoid being outdoors today. For the general public we would recommend trying to stay indoors as much as possible.”

Currently the air quality alert is expected to last through Friday and partially into the weekend.
